INTERIOR.MEETING ROOM.DAY
DON DRAPER walks out from a closet-like time travel machine, standing in a corner of the meeting room. The meeting room is not that different from the slick, Scandinavian furnished, modern offices Draper’s used to from the sixties. Draper takes a look around. In the middle of the room there’s a big round table. Around the table a group of five men and women, all staring at Draper. A man in a grey suit with a bad comb over, THE CEO, starts to speak.
CEO
So, you were just about to go on about how to raise common knowledge about Quickie Mart?
DRAPER
(Clears his throat) Well, it’s a question of painting them an image. What is Quickie Mart? Is it a day relaxing at the countryside with the kids â thanks to saving time doing your shopping at Quickie Mart? Or is it some friends dropping by for late drinks and laughs - with a shopping bag from Quickie Mart, open around the clock?
CEO
Yeah, well. We were thinking about this whole social media thingy. How about that? Involving customers, conversation marketing and….Twitter and wikis andâŠ. you know?
DRAPER
Social what? (Draper walks over to a white cabinet to his left, opens the cabinet. It’s empty except for a stack of envelopes) Where do you keep the gin? (The men and women look embarrassed at each other)
(Draper takes a deep breath, apparently annoyed) So you’re thinking about involving customers in the marketing? You might as well put some chimps behind the typing machines doing the copy - and while you’re at it, there’s a mental institution around the corner, let the nuts do the artwork.
CEO
(stands up) Well Mister Draper, it was nice meeting you. We’ll get back to you.
DRAPER
Yeah, you do that. And good luck with theâŠwhat did you call it?
CEO
(Turns around) Social media.
š
DRAPER
(Lights a cigarette) Yeah, good luck with that.
